Supercontinuum refers to a phenomenon that when light pulse propagate through optical fibers, due to optical fiber nonlinear process, output spectrum is greatly widened, at the same time, a lot of new frequency components is generated.Since the concept of supercontinuum spectra was proposed, the supercontinuum generation mechanism and spectral characteristics have attracted many concern, and its application in other areas are increasing quickly, which in turn driving more and more people to study the use of more advanced optical means to generate more excellent characteristics supercontinuum. Among these, the photonic crystal fiber (PCF),known for its excellent structural properties, high nonlinearity, controllable dispersion characteristics,is an excellent medium to generate supercontinuum. Recently, studies based on photonic crystal fiber to generate supercontinuum have made great progress. Rely on supercontinuum 3dB bandwidth, this paper analyse how the flatness and width of output supercontinuum are affected by input pulse parameters and characteristics of fiber.This paper, by using Split-Step Fourier method to solving generalized nonlinear Schrodinger equation, simulate the evolution process of the light pulse propagating through photonic crystal fibers, in addition, the impacts of characteristics of fiber and input pulse parameters on output supercontinuum were analyzed.The following are main work of this paper:1. A brief introduction of the research background and current status of this article, including concept of supercontinuum spectrum and its applications, concept of photonic crystal fiber,classification, characteristics,and some commonly used analyse method.2. A detailed analysis of the mechanism of supercontinuum generation, and the numerical methods to solve light pulse evolution equation.3. A detailed research on PCF structural design.In addition, this paper also analyse impacts of photonic crystal fiber characteristics on supercontinuum generation. Rely on simulation result, design a high nonlinearity PCF to generate supercontinuum.4. Through the simulation of input pulse evolution, this paper analyse the influence of pulse parameters(including pulse duration,peak power,wave shape and initial chirp.etc) for generating supercontinuum.
