With the popularity of mobile devices, people are having increasingly high demand for mobile network and large-scale wireless LAN begins to rapidly rise. So a wireless LAN management system with configuration management, real-time monitoring, performance detection and alarm response is essential in wireless LAN building and maintenance. Because of the lightweight structure and multi-function, SNMP protocol has been widely used in network management. This thesis is based on SNMP and the intergrated, cross-platform network equipment management solutions were studied in it. Also, the design and implement of a standardized interface network management system in wireless LAN were presented in this thesis. The main work of this thesis is as follows:1. A certain amount of knowledge and research on the technical background and development of WLAN network management have been done.2. The principle, reference models and data transmission processes of SNMP protocol were researched.3. A new design has been raised based on the wireless LAN access controller software architecture that adding a sub-system processing data can improve the performance of network management system.4. The needs analysis, detailed design and coding implementation have been finished.5. Based on the needs analysis result, the functional testing and performance testing have been designed and done. The results showed that the designed network management system has covered the designed functions and perform well in the response of network management message.6. The shortage of this network management system was pointed out and some future research suggestions in wireless LAN network management area were put forward.
