The fast growing of software functions lead to the rapid increase in software code size and complexity, which is challenging the quality and reliability of software products. However, none of the software can be released without any defect, due to the limitation of time, resource, budget, and technical skills within the software development project teams. Therefore, the tool for software reliability prediction, management, control and improvement will extremely benefit software development project managers to balance the project costs and quality. So, research on the software reliability control in the software project development projects is valuable in terms of theory and practice. This paper provides a new software reliability control methodology, based on the existing reliability prediction model (Rayleigh Model) and the defect prevention methodology (Orthogonal Defect Classification). The new method has been applied in a pilot software development project. On the one hand, it controlled the software reliability effectively, and shew its feasibility; on the other hand, it also can be integrated with the software development process and project management, to real time control software development projects in an effective way.The new software reliability control methodology has been generated, in order to improve the quality and reliability of the software development projects. It provides help and real time control for each phase of the software development projects, and brings good business benefit to the enterprise by reducing defects, cost and lead time.
