As the main way to obtain the information of indoor environment, wireless location has become a hot research area in the field of communication and information technology.Using ultra wideband technology has the advantages of non-contact, non line of sight, low power consumption and high accuracy. This paper studies the features and principles of wirelss locating technology, and develops the indoor locating hardware system based on wireless communication. The wireless positioning system designed in this paper includes mobile tags, signal transceiver module, Ethernet transmission and power supply and other hardware parts, and communication frame according to 802.15.4 IEEE standard, software for tags and base stations, data processing and display software of upper computer. The tag is composed of the low power consumption main control chip, DW1000 ultra wideband transceiver chip and its peripheral circuit and battery, the base station is composed of wireless transceiver minimum system, Ethernet module, Wifi antenna matching circuit and power supply module. The base station receives a communication frame broadcast from the tag, and read the unique tag ID and the arrival time stamp then send them to the switch. The host computer can get the data through the Ethernet transmission protocol, and call TDOA location algorithm to calculate label coordinates. In the laboratory environment, the performance test of the system is carried out.. The results show that the wireless locating system based on ultra wideband technology can achieve accurate locating of stationary and moving objects in the range of 12m*12m. Both the stability and the accuracy of the locating can meet the expected requirements.
