Sensitivity is one of the most important performance indexes of the gyroscope, The improvement of the sensitivity can directly promote the accuracy of the gyroscope, and widen the application area of the gyroscope. The cupped vibrating gyroscope has a promising prospect for its advantages of low power consumption, low cost, high reliability and longevity and so on. The metal resonator is the central element of the cupped vibrating gyroscope. The design of the resonator’s structure can determine its sensitivity and other indexes. This article is aimed to research how the the structures parameters effect the sensitivity of the cupped vibrating gyroscope. Then study the sensitivity-optimized resonator structure. particularly speaking, following works have been done in this article:1. The basic structure and the operational principle of the cupped vibrating gyroscope were introduced. The inner meaning of the sensitivity has been discussed, and different kinds of sensitivity were compared.2. Depend on the model of common vibrating gyroscope, the second-order difference dynamics modal of the cupped vibrating gyroscope was built. Then the sensitivity model of the cupped vibrating gyroscope was formed.3. The in-out effect of the cupped vibrating gyroscope was simulated by the mean of finite element analysis. How the the structures parameters effect the sensitivity of the cupped vibrating gyroscope was then studed in detail.4. Sensitivity optimized structure was designed based on the results of the finite element analysis. The simulation result indicating that the sensitivity of the optimized resonator was 2.8 times that of the unoptimized resonator.5. Manufacture process was programmed. Then the high sensitive cupped vibrating gyroscope prototype was made.6. Antithetical tests was made to study how the the structures parameters-including the diameter of the resonator, the height of the resonating ring, the height of the resonator side face, the thickness of the resonating ring, the thickness of the bottom surface and so on-effect the sensitivity of the cupped vibrating gyroscope. The tests results coincide well with the results of the simulation, which verify that the outcome of the simulation analysis was right.7. The optimized gyroscope was tested. The results demonstrate that the sensitivity of the optimized gyroscope was 2.26 times that of the unoptimized gyroscope. The tests results coincide well with the results of the simulation, which verify that the optimized design was right.
