The shark has survived more than five hundred million years in the ocean. Using modern imaging technology to research the internal structure of the shark especially the head tissues and organs, has an important meaning for deeply understanding, perceiving and protecting the shark species. Currently, people observe and reconstruct three-dimensional(3D) structure of CT, MRI and other two-dimensional images mostly using large equipments or computers with analytics software. But the disadvantages are high cost and inflexible. This paper processed shark MRI sequences using 3D medical visualization programming technology and achieved 3D reconstruction and display through rendering technology. It can not only provide multi angle 3D observation without repeated experiments, but dramatically reduce the cost of teaching and research.This paper designed a shark head MRI sequence of 3D reconstruction system by MFC and VTK(visualization tool) in Visual Studio 2010 environment using the software engineering combined with computer graphic knowledge. In order to display cutting effects better, the system uses ray-casting algorithm based on GPU-accelerated to make the shark head 3D model volume rendering, and simulates scalpel to interactive cutting the rebuild shark head. The reconstructed 3D model provides rotation, scaling, and 3D orthogonal display. The system mainly includes four modules: reading image information, marking and format conversion, image pre-processing, 3D reconstruction and interactive and interactive cutting modules. In this paper, the software system designed with the needs analysis, the overall design, detailed design, code programming, performance testing and archives organize ideas, and the algorithms involved in the process of function realization are encapsulated into classes to reuse. In this paper, the system is mainly used for studying and observing 3D reconstruction of the sharks’ head MRI sequences in scientific research and teaching.
