As a form of cloud computing, desktop cloud is becoming more and more widely used. As a user can get access to the desktop cloud at any time from any place with just a thin client, desktop cloud gains great advantage in resource conservation and facilitating the use of it. While the desktop cloud is facilitating the users’ daily work, users and developers of desktop cloud take the availability of it more seriously. High availability desktop cloud ensures that users can get access to it continuosly, and the users won’t endure long time offline when the virtual desktop is crashed or the desktop cloud server fails. This will enhance user experience and make it easier to market the desktop cloud products among availability sensitive users. Major domestic and foreign virtualization vendors make the high availability feature as an important selling point of their desktop cloud products.At the beginning of this paper, I introduce the current research status of the high availability desktop cloud, as well as the related core concepts and techniques, and then analysis the high availability features of three commonly used open source cloud computing platform. After that, the included functions of high availability desktop cloud are summed up.Then, I puts forward the principles and the way on how the high availability desktop cloud is structured, then I analysis the shortcomings of Hybird Desktop Cloud Server in availability based on those principles. In the following chapters of this paper, solutions to each of the shortcomings are talked and implemented, and the availability of HDCS promoted a lot. The implemented funtions of high availability desktop cloud in this paper are as follows: high availability management platform, rapid detection of vitual machine fault, Server fault monitoring, virtual machine failover and reliable mechanism for data storage. At the end of this paper, I test and analysis each related function.
