3D road modeling is an important part in the field of traffic survey. The road maintenance is becoming an important fundamental task as the road network density increases. Traditional road maintenance was almost completed artificially. To improve the efficiency of road survey, the researchers have proposed a kind of road measurement system based on vehicle system. Our topic is in the context of a road modeling system based on vehicle system.3D road modeling based on gathered road information belongs to the category of geographic system. Geometric model is the primary thing the modelers should take into consideration. On this basis, more and more researchers started to pay attention to realistic performance in order to improve the visual effect and measure effect of the road model. In computer graphics, texture mapping is a basis technology to improve the sense of reality. So almost all the research on realistic modeling is based on texture mapping. Our research on 3D realistic road modeling is based on the same technology.We first research on the device to collect real road texture data. The research mainly focus on the process to get pavement texture image using industrial line scan camera because of the excellent craftsmanship and exquisite appearance of it. More importantly, the camera is easy to integrated into the whole vehicle system and it can get clear images when the car is running at high speed. We then study the denoising and enhancement of the original image. The adapted median filter is used for the impulse noise in the image. And the Bi-Histogram equalization with a plateau limit is used to enhance the dark image because the lack of exposure time. Next, we research the registration of the line scan image data and the line scan laser data. A texture quadtree is used to manage the large scale road texture. Multi-resolution texture mapping can be completed using this kind of method, thus can improve the mapping efficiency. The experiment shows that the sense of reality of the road can be obviously enhanced by applying texture mapping. Finally, we study the technology to strengthen the reality of the road according to lighting. We use fragment shader to complete the normal mapping algorithm. The road looks more realistic by this way.
