Optical fiber communication has become the main mode of information transmission in power system. Power communication network becomes increasingly complex. So that optical fiber communication is critical to the safety and reliability of the power system. Due to the expanding size and covering area of communication cable, cable faults happen more frequently. Still, there are many problems on the traditional fiber fault location system. Such as not intuitive, inefficient, inaccurate positioning. To solve this problem, it proposes a fault localization method, which combines OTDR and GIS, namely the establishment of the power communication cable fault location and information management system by the use of GIS component for secondary development. It also can improve the digital management of power communication cable. The detailed work is as follows:①To solve the defects of traditional methods in analysing the OTDR trace, it proposes a method based on wavelet transform, which can obtain distance information of the fault accurately and improve the positioning accuracy of OTDR.② Establish power communication cable database. Establish digital map of Yuzhong Peninsula Power Communication cable network by following a few steps: to establish coordinate system, spatial calibration, to draw geographic elements, to draw power communication cable elements. It builds up a spatial database, finally constitute the corresponding attribute tables and with which to attribute database. At last, it establishs relationship between spatial data and attribute data by ID.③Adopt APDM model of oil and gas pipelines, it can convert the linear distance of the OTDR test to the geometric distance display by GIS through the establishment of linear reference system. Therefore, it realizes the proper combination of OTDR and GIS.④ It does secondary development of GIS component to establish power communication cable fault location and information management system. It realizes attribute inquirying, map browsing, power distribution room locating and cable fault locating and other functions with Arc Engine components and DEV components.⑤Power communication cable fault location and information management system with field trials has been done, the result proves that the system can effectively achieve the cable fault location and information management, the location accuracy is lower than 5m.
