CR is very popular in this digial X-ray imaging market due to its low cost, flexibility,.easy to upgrade, etc. CR reader is one of the core components of CR system. CR reader involves multiple technologies including Optics, Mechanics, Electronics, Software, Radiology, Radiograhy, Materials, etc. Only few manufacturers are able to design and manufacture commercial CR reader.This paper describes the history of the CR system, a brief aspect of current CR technology, the main components of a CR system and workflows. Then describes the process of designing a new commercial CR engineering prototype.This paper addresses the design process of a CR scanner more from the engineering view. It involves market analysis, technology selection, fundamental technical design, image quality analysis, prototyping, experimental methods and results, improvements, etc.
