Autodesk, Inc., is a leading software company in 3D design, engineering and entertainment. Customers across the manufacturing, architecture, building, construction, and media and entertainment industries use Autodesk software to design, visualize, and simulate their ideas before they’re ever built or created. Autodesk continues developing 3D software for design, engineering and entertainment as well as a line of software for consumers, including Auto CAD, Inventor, Revit, 3ds Max and Maya for desktop, A360, 123 D, Sketch Book and Pixlr for mobile. In recent years, with the rapid raise of computer added design software, user usually needs to work on several software products for one project, so as to take advantage of those products to improve the design. This user cases brings requirements about the collaboration, interactive of different software products. In another hands, with the development of Autodesk, it released and acquired several products, which makes the maintain work and risk of development increases quickly. Also, Autodesk needs to help customers to take advantage of those products well, to make sure the interaction between those products is smooth, so as to help customer to create a better design.In order to solve those problems, Firstly, we need to define standard for basic information, eg: Software Identity, Communication Process. Secondly, to reduce duplicated development and design, we need to componentize basic features, eg: UX component. Then, to support business collaborations between different products, we should also componentize business features, eg: Material Module, Graphic Rendering. Finally, Autodesk uses software platform technologies to make all hero products based on the same software platform, so as to improve the software development, smooth over the difficulty of interaction between different products, and also improve the user experience. This thesis describers the overall solution based on software platform technology, introduces the high level architect. Then introduce detail information for several components: core component, graphic engine component, file system component, UI component and Web Services component. That is to describe each project for the requirement, detail architect, development, test, integration and deployment. This thesis also describes the Scrum in software development.After several years, Autodesk released the first version based on platform technology in 2009, and has released several generations in coming years. This solution helps Autodesk to improve UX, collaboration between products, software development, and etc. Also, Autodesk gets quite positive feedbacks from market.
