Network coding theory was put forward for the first time in 2000, it has upended the traditional views that intermediate node can only store-and-forward the packet without coding them. Network coding is a kind of new technologies which allow intermediate nodes to encode the packet, so in recent years the network coding has become an unprecedented breakthrough in the field of communications. It can improve the network throughput, balance the network load, network reliability and robustness. Because of the radio characteristics of wireless networks and wireless link in transmission unreliability determines it is very suitable for application of network coding, in recent years, the application of network coding in wireless networks has become a hotspot of scholars.Due to the nodes energy is limited in the wireless network, so it is necessary to save transmission time and energy consumption in wireless network. First this paper introduces the concept of network coding and its classification and characteristics, then introduces the concept of wireless network, single hop and multi-hop wireless network, single rate and multi-rate of wireless network, and the three kinds of way to send a date in wireless network. The wireless network as a kind of convenience network resources, is becoming increasingly popular. According to wireless single node network being able to adjust transmission rate and power, this paper studies a optimized algorithm for the product of transmission time and energy consumption. First, COPE algorithm is used to determine the encoding, Then this paper proposes a heuristic algorithm (RPAA):The Rate and Power Adjustment Algorithm. The main characteristic of the algorithm fully consider the power and rate which affect the performance of network. Finally Simulation results show that compared with classical algorithm of COPE, RPAA algorithm relative to COPE can reduce 58 percent energy consumption, and product of transmission time and energy consumption is reduced by about 80 percent.
