With the rapid development of mobile Internet, a variety of mobile services emerge, the future development trend of the wireless access network is that a variety of wireless access technology coexist and complement each other, and gradually moves towards integration, to provide diversified services. However, the closed and rigid characteristics of existing wireless network lead to many problems such as heterogeneous wireless network are difficult to intgrate, network can’t provide customized service and so on. Wireless access network virtualization technology can effectively solve the corresponding challenges, provides a feasible scheme for the future wireless network. With network virtualization, complicated network control function can be decoupled from the hardware and extracted to upper to make a unified coordination and management, thereby lowering the cost of management and improving control efficiency. By abstraction of network resources, heterogeneous wireless network coexistence and integration. This paper introduces the three key technology for the future of wireless access network virtualization from two aspects, the new resource of wireless access network architecture and wireless virtualization technology. First of all, this paper puts forward a virtualization based software defined radio access network(SDN) architecture. The framework architecture and the key modules such as SDN control strategy is described. This architecture has realized the flexible control, convergence evolution, open programmable and customizability of wireless access network. Secondly, this paper describes the design and implementation of a network virtualization substrate(NVS) for effective virtualization of wireless resources in wireless networks. It’s a flow-level solution. In virtualizing a basestation’s uplink and downlink resources into slices, NVS meets three key requirements—isolation, customization, and e?cient resource utilization. Finally, the paper describes the design and implementation of CellSlice. CellSlice is a gateway-level solution that achieves the slicing without modifying the basestations’ MAC schedulers, thereby signi?cantly reducing the barrier for its adoption. Achieving slicing with a gateway-level solution is challenging. Through the simulation and evaluation, we demonstrate that CellSlice’s performance for both remote uplink and remote downlink slicing is close to that of NVS.
