In recent decades, up-conversion nano-materials have received widespread attention. For advantages of high sensitivity and good stability, they are designed for a variety of applications in biomedical imaging, drug screening, and quantitative analysis of biological molecules, etc.With the development of mobile technology, smart-phones become an indispensable part of our daily life. Owing to powerful sensing and processing capacity, smart phones have been found particularly suitable for point-of-care testing (POCT).By combining the techniques of photoelectric detection and mobile computing, we propose a new smart-phone based detecting system for up-conversion fluorescence. The main contributions of this study are as follows:(1) Take micro-capillaries and sink slides as sampling cells for trace sample detection.(2) Condense the laser beam by combined collimation lens so that the low concentration samples could be excited effectively.(3) Using CMOS image sensor as the detector of the detecting system, not only the intensity signal of the fluorescence can be obtained by the detecting system, but also the fluorescence image information can be obtained.(4) The detecting system making use of the smart phone’s camera for fluorescence imaging, through the analysis of the fluorescence image of RGB, can realize red, green, and blue three kinds of fluorescence detection at the same time.(5) Scalable computing platform.A mobile application is developed with the aid of AppCan IDE. It is not only able to interpret fluorescent images, but also has the function of database. All information including the test results, the testing time and the testing location.The results of a series of experiments show that the new smart phone based detecting system has satisfactory sensitivity and stability.
