Naked-eye 3D display technology provides not only stereoscopic realistic visual perception, but also convenient and comfortable. It becomes a major research focus of display technology. The carbon black in this paper was used as an electrophoretic material in the naked-eye 3D parallax barrier. The surface of carbon black was modified to improve its dispersion stability and electric field response characteristics. Therefore, the modified carbon black can be used as an electrophoretic material in the parallax barrier.The surface of carbon black was oxidative modified by concentrated nitric acid, and the process flow of oxidative modification was researched. The process parameters of the oxidative modification were researched through the oxygen content of the modified carbon black. 67% nitric acid was used in the oxidative modified reaction for 8h at 120℃,it was possible to get the optimal oxidative modified carbon black,its oxygen content was 5.27%. The surface of carbon black was graft modified by aminopropyl triethoxysilane, and the process flow of graft modification was researched. The process parameters of the graft modification were researched through the grafting rate. 15% aminopropyl triethoxysilane was used in the graft modified reaction for 14 h at 80℃,it was possible to get the optimal graft modified carbon black,its grafting rate was 18.3%.The morphology of modified carbon black was observed by using SEM, the powder agglomeration of the oxidative modified carbon black and the graft modified carbon black decreased, and their particle size decreased. The elemental composition of modified carbon black was analyzed by using EDS, the oxygen content of the modified carbon black increased, the oxygen content of the oxidative modified carbon black increased 39%. The oxygen-containing functional groups were measured by acid-base titration quantitatively, the oxygen-containing functional groups in the oxidative modified carbon black increased 3.5 times.The dispersion stability of modified carbon black was analyzed through the natural sedimentation experiments and the centrifugal sedimentation experiments. The dispersion stability of modified carbon black increased obviously. On this basis, the effects of surfactants on the carbon black dispersion system were researched, description the surfactant can increase the stability of the modified carbon black dispersion, and the optimal concentration of Span-80 and SDS surfactants was 5%.The temperature effects on the dispersion stability of carbon black was researched. Maintain the temperature of the carbon black dispersion below 60℃ to ensure the stability of the dispersion. Finally, the influence of ball milling on carbon black particle size was researched. Though ball milling, the particle size of the carbon black was reduced and there was no significant change in dispersion.A simulation test device on the electric field response characteristics of carbon black was designed and produced. The conductivity and the electric field response characteristics of carbon black were tested and analyzed. The conductivity of the modified carbon black reduced one order of magnitude. The electric field response characteristics of carbon black meanwhile had greatly improved, the modified carbon black responded to an electric field within 1s.
