In modern society, information technology has been applied in every domain of human activities to improve efficiency, and fingerprint recognition is one of such technologies. Currently, the Public Security Bureau has begun to use the fingerprint recognition technology, including fingerprint information acquisition and criminal fingerprint comparison, to improve the efficiency of solution of crime case. But when the fingerprint data gets larger and larger, how to store and manage these data becomes a challenge issue, and demands well-developed fingerprint management system.Based on a comprehensive survey on the actual needs of the Public Security Bureau, and also taking into account the resource utilization efficiency, enthusiasm, normative, as well as the cost, we propose a complete system design. The system is developed with ASP.NET WEB platform technology, and Microsoft SQL Server is used to store various types of data. The system includes four modules: live fingerprint acquisition module, fingerprint investigative module, fingerprint matching module, and system management module. Live fingerprint acquisition module is mainly responsible for fingerprint information acquisition and management; fingerprint investigative module is mainly responsible for investigative case management and query; fingerprint matching module is to compare fingerprint of suspects to the fingerprint in database; system management module is mainly responsible for managing fingerprint data and user information. This article focuses on fingerprint matching module, and introduces image pre-processing and fingerprint matching in detail. In image pre-processing stage, some commonly used methods, such as smoothing, sharpening, etc. are applied to image, then image is binarized and modified for matching. In fingerprint matching stage, a specific matching algorithm is used to identify fingerprint.This paper first describes the background and the current development of the technology, and then analyzes the many problems that exist in the current fingerprint applications, focusing on how to improve the efficiency of application of the system. For each module, the flowchart is given to describe the implementation process. Finally, the system is tested, and runs smoothly and successfully.Currently, the fingerprint management system has been deployed in the public security bureau, and the application is very good. The use of fingerprint becomes more orderly and efficiently than before, and the detection rate is improved, more money is saved.
