As a new multi-hop wireless networks,Wireless Mesh Network does not rely on large-scale infrastructure, compared to traditional single-hop wireless networks, which has the advantages of self-organizing, self-healing, fast networking, high bandwidth, low cost and so on. Based on these merits, Wireless Mesh Network has been widely used in various fields. However, MAC algorithms and routing algorithms have been the key technology in this field, which determine its performances. So related research and cross-layer optimization techniques have become the current hot spots in this field.Wireless Mesh Networks has the characteristics of high load, unbalanced operations and emergency services. Once the classic algorithms are directly adopted in such networks networking scenario, there will not be lots of problems including enhancing the throughput, packet lose rates, and many other issues. These factors have effect on the service performance of the network. As for these problems, this paper do research on the access algorithm and routing algorithm.(1) With respect to the study of MAC algorithm, our method based on the TDMA. We adopts rational design of the frame structure, allocating time slot to each node as needed and giving priority to the high priority data. At the same time, taking into account the situation of nodes join and exit the network, finally got the On-demand Dynamic TDMA algorithm;(2) In the study of routing algorithm, we propose a new method based on the basic AODV routing algorithm.We use the cross layer design ideas, taking into account the underlying physical channel conditions, node load, network congestion and hops, then obtain these parameters from relevant network layer and generate a synthetic criterion. Following, optimizing packet and routing update rules, considering the node residual energy, finally got the cross-layer AODV routing algorithm;In this paper, we do our research to test two methods based on OPNET network simulation platform by simulating the situations including high load, uneven bursts of network operations and business scenarios. Compared with fixed TDMA algorithm, OD-TDMA access algorithm shows an increase in throughput. Besides, this method reduces the end to end delay and packet loss rate. Compared with the AODV algorithm, CL-AODV routing algorithm reduces end to end delay and packet loss rate are reduced too, and can guarantee in certain moving speed of the network. We do our research under specific engineering background. Thus, its research and design ideas have certain reference value for building wireless Mesh network communication system.
