Research On Netdisk Based Mobile Botnet Command And Control Channel

Mobile botnet is one of the hottest research issues in recent years, “Command and Control channel” is a core problem in mobile botnet research, since it’s the key to the prevention and detection of mobile botnets.Based on the mobile botnet command and control channels that have been proposed, we propose a novel network disk based command and control channel. For this study, we mainly did the following three parts of work: First, using network measurement techniques, measured different network disk’s performance on Android platform, which provides a basis for channel design. During performance measurement, developed one automatic measurement software run on Android to make the entire measurement automated. We collected a large amount of data using this tool. By analysing these data, we compared different network disk’s pros and cons. Second, we designed a complete network disk based command and control channel, which considered the information sending methods in different direction. We described methods to enhance the integrity and robustness of this channel and its advantages over channels. Finally, using these network disks’ official API interface, we implemented a prototype on Android platform to verify the feasibility of this channel. This prototype can split file into multiple slices and upload them to distinct network disks, it can also retrieve these slices from network and recover the raw file. Using this prototype, we get some useful experiment result.
