Wireless sensor network is a novel network which integrates communication, sensors, embedded computation and network technology. Wireless sensor network has broad application prospects in the environmental monitoring, military defense, bio-medical, intelligent home furnishing, commercial applications and other areas. The network’s energy resource is limited and usually can’t be supplemented, so routing protocol design for wireless sensor network requires to save energy. The routing protocols in wireless sensor network are designed for the node can’t be automatically supplemented energy, so we improve the classical protocol of LEACH and propose a network routing protocol can be used in wireless sensor network based on geographical site. This thesis analyses some of the existing routing protocol for wireless sensor network, and designs a new routing protocol named GCRP based on geographical site. The monitoring area is clustered by its scope, the total number of nodes and the sensor nodes’ geographical position, the new routing protocol named GCRP which makes the clusters distributed well in the network. The nodes’ residual energy and the energy be used by the cluster head are referenced when electing the cluster head, the new routing protocol named GCRP which has more balanced energy consumption about the nodes in the network. The protocol is simulated by MATLAB, and the simulation result indicates that new protocol has a better performs than LEACH protocol. Finally, we build a sensor network demonstration system to demonstrate research based on energy harvesting with the laboratory project. The actual test data results show that the functions such as data collection, routing and networking are realized and the system has a good performance.
