Distributed Video Coding(DVC)is a new technology in the field of video coding, which can be widely used in the video device of limited energy. Therefore, this paper analyzes the existing technology of DVC, and focuses on the study of side information, rate control and application of DVC.Firstly, according to the continuity of the motion vectors between the adjacent frames, an improved side information generation algorithm is proposed. This algorithm uses the motion vector of adjacent front WZ frame as the initial state of forward motion estimation, besides bidirational motion estimation and motion compensation. Experimental results show that compared with the existing side information generation algorithm, the proposed algorithm greatly reduces the computational complexity of side information generation without reducing the quality of side information.Secondly, according to the correlation between the adjacent frames in encoding side, a feedback free rate control algorithm is proposed. The algorithm calculates the correlation between the source WZ frame and adjacent key frames with the DCT domain to determine the quantization matrix,and according to the generated low complexity side information to allocate the rate of bitplane. Experimental results show that compared with the existing rate control algorithm without feedback, the proposed algorithm does not improve computational complexity substantially, which can effectively improve the Rate-Distortion performance of the system.Finally, this paper analyzes the application scenarios of DVC, and gives a special codec solution for Wireless Video Sensor Network(WVSN), where the solution uses the proposed side information algorithm and the feedback free rate control algorithm. The solution can meet the needs of WVSN with low complexity, high compression and high fault-tolerance.
