The colocated multiple-input multiple-output(MIMO) radar, which exploits mutually orthogonal waveforms, has shown many superiorities such as reduced the interception probability of radar, improved capability of target detection, increased performance of parameter estimation, etc. While the bistatic radar, with separated transmit and receive arrays, has shown huge advantages in anti-ARM, anti-Low Altitude Infall, anti-jamming, and anti-stealth. The bistatic MIMO radar discussed in this thesis incorporates the special potential of bistatic radar and the basic superiority of MIMO radar, leading to better performance and more advantages. In this thesis, a bistatic MIMO radar experimental system with a transmit/receivereceive(T/R-R) structure is preliminarily tested by the combining theoretical analyses and experiments. And test validations for a series of algorithm are carried out as well. The main works of this thesis is listed as follows:1. The basic principle and the hardware experimental system of the bistatic MIMO radar are introduced; the basic control interface of the experimental system is designed; And the experimental system is initially tested to verify the effectiveness of the bistatic MIMO radar hardware experimental system.2. The problem of sidelobe suppression in the narrowband frequency division MIMO radar systems is discussed. The main idea of this method is that the comprehensive output signal is obtained after matched filtering and beam-forming, and the comprehensive signal is processed by the spectra modification which makes its spectrum into the shape of the window function. The range side-lobe is effectively reduced and the ratio of mainlobe to sidelobe is greatly improved.3. A method of calibrating sensors’ position errors with the existence of error on the source location information is proposed. A large number of sample data can be obtained by rotating the antenna to receive the signal from one source, then the error on the source location information is corrected with the least square method, and the sensors’ position errors are estimated. Finally, the computer simulation is carried out to verify the feasibility of this method.4.The array error correction is considered for bistatic MIMO radar. A method of calibrating sensors’ position errors, gain-phase errors and mutual coupling uncertainties is proposed. The error parameters are estimated by the iteration algorithm which applies to the error calibration of transmit array and receive array separately or the combined error correction of transmit and receive array. The method has a good convergence, and can accurately estimate the array errors.
