The design of frequency hopping pattern is the key of frequency hopping communication system. It determines the quality of the performance, anti-interference capability. Conventional frequency hopping communication is a “blind hopping” method. Without the consideration of electromagnetic environment effect, the frequency hopping pattern makes signal occupy each channel in a wide range of bandwidth evenly and continuously. Cognitive radio technology can manage and utilize spectrum resources intelligently; it provides a good idea for solving the shortage of spectrum resources and resisting interference. After deep understanding of the cognitive radio principle and analysis of frequency hopping signal feature, this paper uses cognitive radio technology for the design of frequency hopping pattern.Spectrum sensing is the key technology in cognitive radio; this paper takes it as the primary design link. With the general analysis of spectrum sensing methods in frequency domain, this paper researches a multi-taper spectrum estimation method based on wavelet threshold de-noising. Through the experimental analysis and comparison, the proposed method has the best resolution and detection performance. This paper uses this method to analyze the communication environment(especially the frequency hopping communication environment), differentiate between spectrum holes and signal occupied bands.The extraction of the frequency hopping information as the second research link of this paper, the purpose of this link is researching and analyzing frequency hopping signaldeeply. Through using the time-frequency analysis and the multi frequency parameters smoothing method, the presence information, related parameter informationof the frequency hopping pattern and the modulation rule are obtained. Through the experimental analysis, these methods have the good performance.The study of the differential frequency hopping pattern design method as the third link of this paper. Through the deep analysis and comparison of the various differential frequency hopping pattern design methods, the thought of frequency hopping signal design and the performance test methods are clearer.Upon completion of the study above links, this paper researches a design method of frequency hopping pattern on the discontinuous bands. This paper describes the de-sign principle, the design structure and the design specific workflow in detail, tests its hamming correlation property, uniformity, continuity, randomness and anti- interference performance. Through the experimental analysis, the proposed frequency hopping pattern has good performance, which proves the feasibility of applying the cognitive radio technology in frequency hopping pattern design and provides reference for the future engineering design.
