Design And Implementation Of Network Monitoring System Based On WinSnmp

Along with The rapid development of the computer network comes people’s growing demand for network management. In such a environment, Simple Network Management Protocol(SNMP) is widely used.It is more simple compared with other protocols.WINDOWS provides a single interface which is specifically used for develoing application based on SNMP protocol,that is WinSNMP. This article shows a kind of network monitoring system using this interface and SNMP++ development kit.It is combined with the environment in the Net laboratory.The article begin with the function and the definition of network management,then comes with the standard manage module in SNMP and the structure of Management Information Base(MIB).We also analyse the operating method of SNMP. Finally,design and implement a network monitoring system with four functional modules.After showing how to get all the informations in the MIB based on WinSNMP and SNMP++,we alse discuss the way to use the snmp++ functions。The system include the functions such as:displaying the MIB messages in a tree object;monitoring the network equipments;discovering the Network topology and processing the Trap messages.The most important modular is the monitor module.It can find all devices supporting SNMP protocol in a designated network segment and show then in a list.You can monitor all relevant data about a selected device such as CPU loading,memory size, opened interfaces erc..It can also be used for traffic monitoring on a selected port.The network administrator can analyze and formulatet the strategies by using these informations.The system provides some methods for the management of Network,And we verified the feasibility of related functions in a real environment.The paper also shows inadequacies in the system.
