As the development of the Internet, the traditionaldistributed networkarchitectureshave been unable to meet the requirements of users. The main limitationsof current networks include: the devicesare complex, difficult to configure and difficultto add new features. As an emerging network architecture,Software-Defined Networking(SDN)overcomessome of the limitations in traditional network and has attractedwidespread attentions. However, Software-Defined Networking still has itsshortcomings, such aslimitedprocessing capabilityofcentralized controller etc. There are a lot of issues discussed on the scalabilityof Software-DefinedNetworking, but most of those are based on intuition or laboratory flow, fewperformance evaluations is under real traffic. On the other hand, the existing solutions ofthe scalability of Software-Defined Networking aretied tothe particular structure, thereis no summary of the advantage and disadvantage of the possible structures. Moreover, the existing solutions can’t change its structure according to the requirement. In this thesis, we work inthree aspects:1. We propose asimplified modeland the performance factors ofSoftware-Defined Networking. Based on this model, simulation softwareis designed andimplemented. With this software, we evaluate the Software-Defined Networkingsystemon different characteristics using real traffic.Fromthe experimental results, weobserve that:(i) The flow table size is not enough.(ii) The flow table entryinstallation delay in existing switches is much smaller than needed.(iii) The capabilityof single controller is not enough for ISP.2. We summarizethe advantage and disadvantage of the possible structures, andpropose the control platform architecture model. Based on this model, we implementan OpenFlow controller which can change its ownarchitectures.3. We conductthe functional and performancetests of our controller. The results oftests show thefunction and performance of our controller reaches the design goal.
