Based on the inertial sensing property of the hemisphere shell standing vibration wave radial precession effect in vibration pattern,The Hemispherical Resonator Gyro(HRG) is a new type inertial navigation solid-state gyro. The Gyro has been highly evaluated in the field of inertia over the world for the unique features of high-precision, high reliability and long life. As the space technology of manned spaceflights matures with each passing day and the expansion of demand in aerospace application. The requests become more involved in the precision and stability of the HRG. But the precision, stability and mass production are important factors affecting application of the HRG, the factors have restricted the application of the HRG in satellite navigation system.The paper introduces some features of the HRG, trend for development in domestic and foreign and the application status. The basic principle, structure characteristic and way of working were also reviewed.According to the problem in studying the HRG, the mechanism of errors and error sources in the HRG are analyzed. The errors mainly embody with some aspects- internal loss of the material, the error of machining, the error of processing technology, mass-unbalanced of resonator’s shell, the error of resonator assembling, position errors,area deviations and the inherent error. For the pose error analysis of processing technology and resonator assembling, the properties of the HRG optimizing the relative technology are detected with the chemical treatment, the ion-beam balancing technology and the electrode etching process. The means of updating test jigs, developing test methods and improving test equipment are used to solve the problems. Studying, exploring and applying new techniques and new methods to reduce the bad effects of the errors through technology innovation. For the error sources of inherent, signal detection and random drift, the balance testing technique, circuit compensation technique, signal processing technique are used to reduce or eliminate the errors of the HRG, to improve the precision and reliability of the HRG.
