Infrared thermal imaging technology is indispensable in the Power system, with the role of directly reflecting in human visual system, helps people to break barrier to visible light recognition and cognize infrared radiation as visible light. However, low contrast and non-ideal visual effect go against observation and diagnosis. In order to ensure the safe operation of Power system and promptness of finding malfunction, It is necessary to improve infrared image, contrast and image visual effect.Based on the theory of infrared image enhancement, this paper is confined to a description about image noise reduction model of algorithm enhancement in infrared image of Power transmission line, analysis and summary of common methods for image enhancement,and analysis of the advantages and limitation in algorithm by MATLAB. In the study, two major difficulties, image detail preservation and noise reduction, got balanced by means that the infrared image of actual Power transmission lines was served as simulation of image. The classical P-M model and the double threshold enhancement algorithm has been analyzed, and the faultiness of P-M model has been corrected in the noise reduction stage. The experiment in which improved P-M model was compared with Winener filtering in simulation revealed that improved model had better effect in image edge retention. In the end, research and experiments on common gray transformation algorithm together with comparison analysis of the advantages and disadvantages in each algorithm were made. Then the piecewise linear algorithm of adaptive threshold selection was proposed. Results of experiment showed that the proposed algorithm had better impact on infrared image of Power transmission line. The present of image edge smoothing and detail enhancement was obvious, and a better visual experience was proved. The algorithm not only provides security of the enhancement in infrared image of Power transmission line but also guarantees for the infrared image technology application in electric power system.
