With the rapid development of the Internet, there appears a variety of new network applications and services, which change the people’s life style and construction way greatly. But when the Internet brings us convenience, some problems also have happened such as network congestion and network security. At present, the classification or analysis of network traffic and how to control it have become an important topic on network research, all the Internet Service Providers have launched their network monitoring and control products, what is more, the Internet company also provide their network service products which have functions such as ensure the web speed, improve the network’s rate and so on. Due to the improved bandwidth of Internet, the technology of Peer-to-Peer has occupied most of the market quickly on the fields of network traffic with its advantages, now it is widely used in related fields as resource sharing, instant communication, network television, distributed storage, collaborative work and peer to peer computing. Not only this, the designer of P2P applications in order to obtain the requirements of transmission speed and real-time, they tend to use UDP protocol as its transport layer protocol for the data transmission, while the UDP protocol does not provide congestion control method, so it increases the possibility of network congestion obviously. A report notes that Peer-to-Peer traffic has now accounted for more than half of the total Internet traffic. In this paper, according to serveral composition analysis about the UDP application traffic and the analysis of servaral typical UDP application, point out that the Peer-to-Peer traffic occupied most of the bandwith in UDP traffic, so the Peer-to-Peer traffic which is used the UDP protocol for transmission is studied, we research how to classify the UDP traffic and classify it as Peer-to-Peer traffic and non-Peer-to-Peer traffic after considering the existing Peer-to-Peer traffic identification methods, and based on it, A method of adaptive network congestion is proposed which distinguish the type of UDP, we can realize it at queue management in the edge router, as the TCP protocol itself has congestion control function,so we not control this traffic, only control the Peer-to-Peer traffic which use the UDP protocol, so that the Peer-to-Peer flow which connect by edge router can automatically cancel the connection or fmd other network services beside the edge router because of having no services long time, this can ease network congestion nowhether inside or outside the edge router. At last we realize it in the network simulation software called Omnet++ which installed the INET framework on it and combining with the Peer-to-Peer traffic generation tool called OverSim, the experiment results proves that this method can control the Peer-to-Peer traffic effectively and alleviate the network congestion...
