Abstract/Summary:
Chinese characters enjoy the longest history and the largest users in the world. It is hard to write Chinese characters, especially for young children who just begin learning. Traditional way of learning Chinese characters takes place in lectures where teachers can not point out errors conducted by students, so the errors happen again and again. As the cognition and behavior content of young children are easy to be engraved, a teaching system should try to make sure that teaching contents can instruct users to correct their errors as soon as possible. So putting forward an automatic teaching method of writing Chinese characters based on a touch screen is practical for solving the problems of traditional teaching methods.Key technologies like modeling writing processes, constructing teaching knowledge, collecting handwriting information, achieving an interface and analyzing writing processes in real time are involved in the automatic teaching method of writing Chinese characters. This paper puts forward an automatic teaching method of writing Chinese characters based on the writing process computation structure; analyzes the classic error structures made by young users when they are writing Chinese characters and constructs the teaching knowledge consisting of dominant and binding stroke order. It uses teaching knowledge to monitor and manage users’ writing processes by the way of tabulation; a link chain of the stroke direction to track the stroke; a traditional way to analyze the stroke relations. And it builds a mechanism of wrong intersections and separation to monitor reverse writing and sets part marks to instruct part relations. Achievements and innovations are as follows:Firstly, this automatic teaching method provides teaching knowledge structure for the automatic teaching method based on Chinese characters writing processes and builds a implementation mechanism by the way of tabulation from the aspect of teaching Chinese writing. Teaching knowledge includes dominant and binding stroke order. What’s more, it analyzes beginners’ real handwritings and grasps error types and writing features, thereby it achieves the automatic teaching targeting on young children’s features.Secondly, it designs a link chain of stroke direction to track strokes, establishes a stroke coding schedule, and uses a submodule system to analyze stroke writing processes. It will enter into the corresponding stroke teaching module based on stroke codes and the number of stroke transformation of the knowledge. As to current stroke teaching, if the stroke is right, it allows the next stroke, if wrong, it will give teaching instructions.Thirdly, it exploits the identification technology of strokes’ spatial relationship in traditional handwritings to analyze the stroke relationship. Fourthly, it builds a mechanism of wrong intersections and separation to monitor reverse writing and sets parts’ marks to instruct part relations. If there exist expected binding relationships, it will implement corresponding analyses; if not, no analyses. When all strokes are finished, it will enter into the module of parts teaching based on the parts’ marks and stored strokes and give instructions according to errors, thereby achieving automatic teaching.Experiments and analyses show that this teaching method can not only realize the automatic teaching of error-correct strokes and stroke relations, but also supervise parts relations and make all kinds of error-correct indexes have practical effects. This method can also be applied in other written languages, like English, Pinyin, Korean etc., so as to achieve the automatic teaching of these languages.
