Scientometrics Analysis On The Output And Collaboration Of Cloud Computing: A Global Perspective

In 2006, the concept of "cloud computing" was first mentioned by Eric Schmidt, the CEO of Google. Since then, cloud computing developed so fast that people even regard it as the new revolution of technology, changing the commercial mode and work-style worldwide. Most countries have realized the importance of developing cloud computing and make every effort to achieve the leading position in this field.In this paper, WOS database and EPO patent database are available in our research, it synthetically uses bibliometrics, patent-ometrics, social network analysis and other methods to research output and cooperation situation in cloud computing fields, the following aspects are what we mainly mentioned:Firstly, from the general scientometrics(bibliometrics, patent-ometrics) perspective, it set up a framework about output and cooperation situation in cloud computing fields stem from SCI database and EPO world patent database. Then discuss the reliability and applicability of methods that are related.Secondly, based on the WOS database, it uses bibliometrics method and social network methods to analyze time, nation, organization, author and subject distribution trend of cloud computing papers all over the world, the influence of countries as well, institutions, periodicals, authors, cooperation trend in different nations, areas and authors.Thirdly, based on EPO patent database, it uses patent-ometrics method and social network methods to analyze the time, country-of-origin, country-of-target, patentee, inventor, technology field of cloud computing patents. Based on patent citations quantity, IPC quantity and patent family size, it analyzes the patent quality of different nations or institutions. Finally, it conducts the patentee cooperation network analysis.Fourthly, based on further analyze of WOS publications and EPO patents information, it constructs a comprehensive evaluation index system of national cloud computing research, and use it to test China and some other main countries`/regions` comprehensive strength in the field of cloud computing research, and analyzed the reason why gap among them are existed.Finally, it puts forward the suggestions for the development of cloud computing research in China.
