Transformation electromagnetic has been a research hotspot in recent years, which is used to design the distribution of electromagnetic parameters in specific area. When the electromagnetic wave goes through this area with transformation medium, the propagation path will be altered as expectation. Therefore, it is an effective method to improve the radiation performance of antenna using transformation electromagnetic. From the basic concept and extended theory of transformation electromagnetic, together with metamaterial, this article explores and analyzes the potential application on microstrip antenna, array antenna and lens antenna. The main researches and innovations are concluded as following:1. According to the theory of cavity mode, the radiation principle of rectangular microstrip antenna and the electric field between the patch and the ground are studied, and a novel method of plane transformation is designed. Through this method, the distribution of material parameter between the patch and the ground is designed, which can make microstrip antenna have a circularly polarized radiation without the change of feeding point, impedance and gain.2. The complex transformation is firstly applied in antenna design, and it plays an important role in adjusting the amplitude of electric field. According to the cavity mode of circular microstrip antenna, we design the circular polarization of circular microstrip antenna through changing the distribution of material parameter between patch and ground.3. In the two dimensional model, the theory of conformal transformation is studied, which can reduce the anisotropy of material. Together with conformal array antenna, a3D dielectric lens is designed, which can be realized by drilling holes in the plastic medium. With this lens, a cylindrical conformal array antenna can perform as a linear array one in the direction of maximum radiation, so this method provides a new idea for the design of conformal array antenna.As the above researches shows, transformation electromagnetic theory and metamaterial have provided a new approach for antenna and other microwave devices. Through further researches on controlling electromagnetic wave, the ability of antenna or other devices will be better and better. The development of researches combining the fields of transformation, metamaterial and antenna will produce more innovations, thus making more potential contributions to the science and engineering.
