The calculable dipole antennas was developed by tapered microstrip balun which was developed by low-cost printed circuit board over the frequency range1GHz to2GHz. And the site insertion loss difference between simulated and measured values were less than0.9dB at the resonance frequencies. The tapered microstrip balun was chosen to develop the calculable dipole antennas by comparing many baluns’characteristics. The structure of the tapered microstrip balun can guarantee better performance and broadband characteristics. The tapered microstrip balun can feed to any antennas based on impedance matching, improve the radiation efficiency of the antenna, and the cost is very low. But how the S-parameters of the tapered microstrip balun measured accurately become difficulty, therefore the Short-Open-Load method was used to measure accurately it’s S-parameters. The short, open, load calibration kits was designed, analyzed and optimized by HFSS software. Meanwhile the accuracy of balun S-parameters measured by the Short-Open-Load method was verified. The balun S-parameter simulated values and measured values were compared. The calculable features of the calculable antennas can be verified by comparing the difference of the site insertion loss between the measured values and simulated values by computer. Excluding the impact of causal factors by different arrangement and reducing the influence of other environmental factors by closely arrangement which validated that the calculable dipole antenna had achieved a better computability. In this paper, The accuracy of the calculable dipole antenna determined by assessing the uncertainty the site insertion loss. The tapered microstrip balun S-parameter which was measured by the Short-Open-Load method is indeed high-accurate by the experiments, thereby improving the accuracy of the calculable antennas. The calculable dipole antennas over1GHz~2GHz can be applied to the validation of the anechoic chamber and the high-frequency performance of the open area test site, and can be used as a standard antenna for the antenna calibration, so it has a very wide range of utilities significance.
