In the field of cognitive radar, the transmitted waveform design is one of the main research contents. The radar performance can be improved by optimal waveform design, which makes full use of the scene information and suppresses the interference. Based on the background of cognitive through-wall radar research, this paper carries out the research on the waveform design method, and conducts the verification experiment. The work of this paper includes the following three aspects:Firstly, the method of optimal waveform design under energy constraint is studied. In this paper, the waveform optimization model is constructed, which is based on the signal to interference plus noise ratio (SINR) criterion and energy constraint of the optimal waveform. Then, a new waveform design method named linear combination method (LCM) is proposed. This method decomposes the combined suppression of clutter and noise into two parts, the suppression of noise and clutter respectively. The simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of this method in improving the SINR and reducing the time of waveform design.Secondly, this paper carries out the research on the method of optimal waveform design under the similarity constraint. As the bandwidth of the optimal waveform designed under the energy constraint is too narrow to meet the requirements of radar system for resolution, this paper constructs the waveform optimization model under similarity constraint. Meanwhile, the related LCM under the similarity constraint is presented. This method can reduce the times of random relaxation algorithm and avoid the iterative operation, by suppressing the clutter and noise respectively. The simulation results show that this method can improve the SINR with high computing efficiency, while the designed waveform satisfying the bandwidth requirements.Finally, this paper constructs the verification experiment of the through-the-wall radar waveform optimization design. In the experiment, the priori information is extracted by the through-wall radar experiment device. After that, the optimal waveforms that designed under the energy and similarity constraint are applied to the through-the-wall scenario. The experimental results show that the SINR is improved, which verifies the feasibility of the waveform optimization method.
