A preliminary study on the rainbow measurement of the liquid jet is conducted based on the laser rainbow measuring system. The basic theory of the rainbow principle, the geometrical optics theory, Airy theory, and Lorentz- Mie theory are introduced. The liquid jet rainbow measuring system is designed and built. It is simple in structure, fast, easy to assemble and debug, easy to operate, with good accurate and repeatable. Using the experimental system, the intensity distribution of liquid jet rainbow with elliptical cross section is measured, including the measurement of liquid column rainbow with different ellipsometric in normal incidence and in oblique incidence. The experimental results fit well with the theoretical computation by the geometrical optics theory and vectorial complex ray model.This paper not only for the first time observed experimentally larger ellipsometric ratio the liquid jet Rainbow phenomenon, verify complex ray theory and ellipsoidal the column light scattering theory calculations. Based the liquid jet Rainbow measurement system measured the instability of the liquid column, compared with the theoretical analysis of fluid mechanics.
