The hole repairing for the 3D surface is one of the most important topic in the area of the digital geometry processing. The applications of the hole repairing refer to the protection of ancient architecture or cultural relic, sketch-based modeling, completion of the skull model, CAD modeling and so on. The existing surface completion methods either have high time complexity or complete the hole region with smooth patches. Hence, an algorithm with less time complexity is presented in our paper which can recover the significant geometric features, i.e., feature lines driven surface completion method. The main contributions are as follows:(1) A matching technique of the feature lines is presented in our paper for 3D surface. In our paper, we detect the feature lines around the holes and present the matching technique of these feature lines. The information of the feature lines contributes to recover the significant geometric details of the missing regions.(2) A method of construction of the base surface for the holes is given in our paper based on the technique of ear clipping triangulation.(3) We propose an order of the refinement and a refinement method for the triangles in the missing region according to the information of the detected feature lines. In order to utilize the information of the holes’ surrounding as much as possible to recover the details of the missing regions, the presented order of the refinement is from the boundary of the hole to its center along the feature lines. And for the triangles in the hole region, the refinement method is that projects the centroid of the triangle to the quadric surface which is fitted by the neighbor vertices of the triangle and the vertices in the feature lines.(4) A bi-Laplace operator with constraints is presented in our paper, which can enhance the significant features in the hole patch.
