With the development of science and technology and social progress, more and more automated equipment is used to replace human labor in industrial production. Role of the sensor is particularly important in the automation equipment. With the price rising of oil, the people pay close attention for the level measurement of large storage tanks to avoid waste and economic loss.At present, liquid level sensor has many kinds, but most of them have shortcoming of low accuracy and poor stability. Magnetostrictive level sensor is more and more interesting because of its large range, high stability, high accuracy. In this issue all kinds of level sensors are made a comparative analysis to obtain the advantages and disadvantages of these sensors. By comparison of the advantages and disadvantages of these sensors, we know that magnetostrictive level sensor has a huge advantage in measuring the level. In this paper, the most important work is mechanical structure design, hardware circuit design and level measurement software program design. Mechanical structure design includes torsional wave transducers design, damper design, improving of removable float. By comparing the single-coil structure and dual-coil structure, decide to use torsional wave transducers the of dual-coil structure. Hardware circuit portion consist of Excitation pulse generating circuit, echo detection circuit, high-precision timing circuit, The transmitter signal transmission circuit and system power circuit. Finally, the experimental prototype is designed to test the performance of magnetostrictive level sensor transmitter. the accuracy, the stability, linearity, hysteresis error and sensitivity of the sensor was tested. Test results show that the performance targets are met expectations.
