Multiple-input multiple-output(MIMO) technique has been demonstrated its superiority of increasing spectrum efficiency and capacity of communication system, and has got rapid development and wide application. Many theoretical studies and applications demonstrate that the millimeter wave MIMO communication has great potencial of development and a broad applied prospect.This article mainly aimed at analyzing and calculating the mutual coupling of Millimeter-wave MIMO communication system due to rain. Firstly, the physical and electromagnetic properties of rain, including the size, the terminal velocity of rain, the rainfall intensity and rainfall, the common rain drop size distributions and the dielectric property of water, are introduced. Secondly, the properties of scatterance and attenuation of millimeter wave due to rain are analyzed including the calculation of single particle scattering and the theory of particles scattering. In addition, the distribution of rainfall and the attenuation due to rain in Xi’an China are studied. Thirdly, the mutual coupling of Millimeter-wave MIMO communication system due to rain scattering is proposed for the first time where the MIMO communication system is introduced, the mutual coupling between array elements is discussed, the effect of mutual coupling of MIMO communication system is analyzed and the calculation of mutual coupling due to rain scattering of MIMO communication system is also given. As an example of parabolic antenna, the mutual impedance induced by rain scattering is calculated, and the mutual impedance is discussed on its relationship with the changing of distance among antennas and rainfall rate.The results have great theory significance and practical value, for analyzing the effect of atmospheric hydrometers on the Millimeter-wave MIMO communication system.
