Masculinity Represented In Korean TV Program< Dad, Where Are We Going?>and Its Limitations

Since the 1990 s, the transformation of the sexual role in Korean society has made the masculinity change a lot, laying the foundation for the rebuilding of male?s image in the TV programs. Korean TV program < Dad, Where Are We Going?> illustrates the new type of masculinity—soft and gentleness, which is essential for Korean man?s recognition and self-definition. Therefore this essay is going to discuss whether there remains any restrictions in the new image of males through the program and further explore the role TV media plays in disseminating the sexual consciousness.Firstly, we have discussed the social meaning of the reshape of masculinity and the effect of the program < Dad, Where Are We Going?> both home and abroad. Besides, we overviewed other researches on this topic, such as the situation of the current survey, the innovations, methodologies and thinking patterns.The first chapter analyzes the new character traits of males and explores the realistic basis and positive effects of it.The second chapter uses rigid stereotype theory and hypothesis to analyze the deviation in the masculinity reshape of the program as well as the reaction of Korean female audience.The third chapter compares the similarities and differences between the two < Dad, Where Are We Going?> in China and Korea, on the basis of which, it rethinks how Chinese program < Dad, Where Are We Going?> can properly represent the male?s image.At last, based on the above analysis of the limitations in representing masculinity in the program, I?d like to make some analysis and suggestions on the responsibility underneath the media broadcast.
