With the rapid development and wide application of information technologies, the management of digital archives becomesmuch more complicated and sophisticated than before. Meanwhile the desire of the public to access digital archive systems requiresmore security, higher throughput, and better user experiences. The cloud computation technologies provide a way to solve all these problems.This paper first overviews the-state-of-the-art and the developing direction of native and foreign digital archive management systems, especially those based on the Cloud. Then, a sample system, Cloud Archives,is described definitely, including the framework of the platform, the process of collecting, managing, and dealing with data dispersing around places, the configuration to sharing and exchanging information among organizations, the application of data analyzing and data mining to support business investigations. Besides, other key issues such as the selection of middle-ware, the security guarantee schema, the user-friendly technologies, and the future research topics are also discussed.The sample system, Cloud Archives, is a real developed and used information system, aiming to provide a high-level management accuracy and user-friendly access to all kinds of archives gathered in Lishui City Municipal Archives. The system is established on a cloud platform, collecting and organizing the digital archive resources collecting from all available resources. Considering the problems existing in the city digital archive management, the sample system tries a series of methods to solve the problems and the results shows inspiring effect.
