The Internet of Thing was known as the third wave of world information industry development after the computer and the Internet. In our country, it also gets the government, enterprises and academia’s highly attention. However, there is no very good platform for IOT experiment. Last year, a classmate of our school network research institute has designed a simple testbed prototype to do IOT experiment in her graduation thesis. Due to the larger scale and big node number characteristics of the Internet of Thing, the scalability problem of IOT testbed comes out. The work of this paper will improvement the system structure of IOT testbed to solve the scalability problem, so that make it get rid of the limitation on hardware resources for the large-scale IOT experiment to a certain degree.In this paper, we solve the scalability problem of IOT testbed by using virtualization technology. First, we add VMNet emulator to IOT testbed to make it supporting IOT emulation experiment, and find out the bottleneck that affects the performance of emulation environment to improve it. Then, we generate sensor data through interpolation processing on the sensing datasets. Finally, we optimize the emulation experiments by generating custom image to automate the emulation environment configuration and developing an emulation experiment configuration tools to simplify the configuration process of emulation experiment.In order to verify and evaluate the work of this paper, we designed several experiments according to the goals of our work. The experiment results show that our proposed solution not only can solve the scalability problem of IOT testbed very well, but also can evaluate protocol and application correctly in heterogeneous IOT experiments.
