With the rapid development of laser cladding technology and reverse engineering technology, the green remanufacturing technology is widely used into the aerospace and mechanical engineering fields, and one of the key technologies for green remanufacturing technology is the repairing technique of mechanical parts. It is significant to calculate and model the repair volume of damaged components, which lays foundation for the computation of the laser cladding tool path and virtual digit repair.This paper proposes a novel approach to obtain the 3D model of the damaged part by performing Boolean operations between the triangular mesh model and exact parameter surfaces after understanding the Boolean operation function between the two models in the reverse engineering software,such as Imageware and Geomagic. By using Microsoft Visual C++2010, OpenGL and Parasolid as the development tools, this paper develops the Boolean operation algorithm design of the two models and implementes the geometric modeling for the repair volume.Firstly, several algorithms about the geometric modelling techniques for damaged components are introduced in this paper, mainly including the mesh topology reconstruction algorithm, the data registration algorithm, the mesh segmentation and the Boolean operation algorithm for 3D model. Secondly this paper designes a geometric modelling framework for the remanufacturing parts, including the repair volume of the damaged region, digitization of the damaged part, the geometric modelling for the repair volume, focus on the geometric modelling method of the repair volume for remanufacturing parts. Thirdly, this paper realizes the following functions:the import and render display based on OpenGL for CAD model and triangular mesh model, developing the coarse and accurate registration between triangular mesh model and the CAD model by minimum bounding box algorithm and improved ICP algorithm, constructing the geometric model of the damaged or worn region the results Boolean operation, which can obtain the 3D geometric model of the damaged part with high quality and efficiency. Finally, an modelling example and discussion are given to illustrate the effectiveness of the approach.
