In general, the book sorting intelligent identification system plays an important role in the digital library construction. Although the start of the digital library construction in colleges and universities might be different, now it is in the process of transformation. As the largest library in Fujian province, Fujian Normal University Library mainly uses manual operation to lend and withdraw books, and the book identification still needs the help of bar codes. What’s more, the access control system of the library is backward magnetic system. All of these management methods are unable to meet the need of the readers and administrators.First of all, the article is on the basis of the feasibility study of the book sorting intelligent identification system and analyzes the development and research at home and abroad of the system and the key technologies used by the system, including the analysis and state of RFID, PLC and sorting intelligent technology. It proves the superiority of the RFID by comparing the advantages between RFID and bar codes. Moreover, this paper, taking Fujian Normal University Library as an example, analyzes the system functions and users requirements, designs the system overall structure, principles and objectives. In the end, according to the requirements, the author improves and chooses the sorting device of floating roller based on the analysis of the advantages and disadvantages of various kinds of sorting systems and develops communication protocol between the RFID reader and PC, with an emphasis on the design and implementation of the sorting intelligent identification and self-help borrowing and returning books systems which are based on PLC and RFID and the design of the shelf arrangement and entrance guard systems.All in all, the paper which is based on the practical application of Fujian Normal University realizes the system control by means of the RFID and the use of PLC. With the combination of self-help borrowing and returning books machines and books management system, the library significantly improves the operation and service level by providing self-help borrowing and returning books service for readers. In addition, the system reduces working intensity of the staff, decreases the system fault rate, and eventually maximizes the library application value.
