The tracking problem of the airborne laser communication terminal is always the emphasis and difficulty in the field of space laser communication.The airborne platform generally refers to carry in the aircraft, UAVs, high-altitude balloons, high-altitude airship and near space platform in space for this kind of motion platform, these platforms has strong maneuverability, speed, and it is difficult to predict the trajectory. Therefore in the airborne laser communication, precise tracking of airborne communication terminal platform is a very important link, the tracking accuracy is directly related to the success or failure of the airborne laser communication. Multi model(Multiple Model, MM) algorithm is a very good tracking algorithm in tracking of airborne platform, The main work of this paper is to study the performance of multi model algorithm in tracking process of airborne laser communication terminal and simulation analysis is carried out through the tracking performance of multiple model algorithm before and after improvement, and through a set of simulation demonstration system of multi model algorithm improved verification. The experimental results show that the tracking performance of multi model algorithm depends on the model set, the more accurate and the model set is more abundant, the tracking effect is more better.Firstly, this paper introduces the research background of airborne laser communication terminal multiple model tracking algorithm, then briefly analyzes the composition and working principle of the airborne laser communication PAT(Pointing, Acquisition and Tracking)system on the basis of comprehensive analysis of the domestic and international laser communication and multi model algorithm development present situation, at the same time, the tracking error of airborne laser communication is analyzed.Secondly, this paper introduced some relevant theory tracking airborne laser communication terminal, analyzed the data pretreatment, Kalman filtering and particle filtering, tracking model in detail, then the basic principle of the multiple model algorithm and the basic steps are introduced, and the multi model algorithm based on CV/CA model was carried on the simulation analysis, and found that when the airborne laser communication platform is in the strong nonlinear state(turn left / right),the CV/CA model will cause large tracking error.Finally, this paper improved the multi model algorithm based on the previous theoretical analysis and Simulation,and introduced "current" statistical model(CS model) and the coordinated turn model(CT model) for high speed and high tracking of maneuvering target,at the same time using the system of motion trajectory of airborne laser communication platform to test and verify the improved algorithm. The experimental results show that the algorithm whether could reduce the multiple model tracking error effectively and improve the tracking accuracy depends on the model set, the model the more can accurately describe the target motion state and the model set is more abundant, the tracking effect is more better.
