In the 21st century, with the development of computer network technology, all kinds of network applications emerging in endlessly, it brings to change dramatically for basic necessities of humanity. However, various problems to come again and again, such as P2P download mode, network security and billing issue and so on. These problems can be used to traffic monitoring to ease up effectively.Traffic identification and traffic control is a key component of traffic monitoring, the recognition rate and processing performance directly affects the merits of the traffic monitoring system. How to monitor traffic effectively and find out network bottleneck, the key is how to identify and classify the various types of traffic in the netraffic. After describes the traffic monitoring is based on the mathematical theory, computer algorithms and the corresponding technology, the paper highlights on the packet matching classification algorithm in traffic identification module and the token bucket algorithm in traffic control system. After then, use of these algorithms in the realization of the system function, but also combines DPI, DFI, and port mirroring technology.In order to verify the validity of the system, a switch in the communication and network of center of the Lanzhou University on the experiment. The experimental results show that, after combining multiple technologies, the recognition rate of this system to identify common protocols and applications above 90%, and according to the set value, it can control the flow on the network and graphics rendering clearly.
