With the development of economic globalization, the social harmony index is rising. But whether in developed or developing countries, the shooting still occurred frequently, so that public safety remains a problem and can’t be ignored. In order to maintain public safety, to find the location of the gunfire, to capture criminals timely, we have proposed and designed a sound source location system. This system includes hardware system and software system. The hardware system has implemented sound signal acquisition and pre-processing; and the software system has implemented the feature recognition and source location of the signal. In order to achieve such a sound source system, the following research has mainly done as the follows.1) There are two technical problems in the system, i e. the sound feature recognition and the sound source location. Basing on consulting a large number of domestic and foreign references about signal feature recognition and location, we have found some theoretical basis of the designing.2) On the basis of a large number of trials and tests, taking on the form of project demonstration to achieve the hardware design in the system. The hardware system uses DSP microprocessor as the smallest system and with the amplifying, filtering, A/D conversion and any other pre-processing to acquire and process sound signal in real time.3) In the software, the core researches are the analysis and application of the algorithm. It includes the software pre-process, the feature recognition and location process of the sound signal. The software pre-process includes preliminary filtering and sampling, pre-emphasis, window and frame. The sound feature recognition algorithm is on the base of correlation operation. The positioning algorithm is on the base of TDOA; and combination of correlation operation algorithm and TDOA algorithm is based on the endpoint detection. In the end, this thesis presents the strategy location of the sound source.The sound source location system has effectively combined the advanced sensor technology and the DSP technology together. Through the research and computation to the algorithm, the analysis and comparison to the different mix waveform, finally we have extracted the feature and positioned the location. This system is simple and stable, and it will be effectively and widely used in many major shopping malls and other indoor public places. It will have a perfect prospect and a market application value.
