Nowadays, people pay more and more attention to the ocean, and actively to the marine launched a comprehensive study, in view of the ocean resources, the world is invested heavily from the various aspects of the in-depth research, acquired a lot of valuable data. Marine research is a multidisciplinary research, which involves the geophysical, geochemical, structure, geology, hydrology, environment, and many other subjects, so the data is not only quantity and variety. Because different subjects use their special instrument and software to collect and store data, so in the past, these data are scattered in the form of file storage, this is not conducive to unified management and to access to the data itself.In order to successfully carry out ocean research, we must be scientific and effective to manage the scientific expedition data, and in order to adapt to scientific data characteristics, is very necessary to study the multi-source scientific data management.In this paper, based on the predecessors’ research results, the management of the southwest Indian Ocean scientific data on the research in-depth, mainly includes:1 Ocean expedition is a difficult undertaking involving multidisciplinary, multi means, with a long-term, and scientific data is the most important research data in exploration area, obtained by the ocean scientific survey, therefore scientific data synthetically reflect the characteristics of the exploration area and ocean expedition. Through preliminary introduction to the southwest India ocean exploration area, combined with the characteristics of ocean scientific survey, analyzed the massive, multi-source, complex, dynamic character of the scientific data.2 In order to manage the scientific data effectively, based on the analysis of the research data, is proposed for adaptive management method of scientific data, this paper adopts scientific data adaptive storage, solving the problem of data management in the process of data massive, multi-source, complex and dynamic nature of the problem; and the automatic geographic data abstract, solves the automatic spatial index geospatial visualization problems. Through the above design, avoid the metadata and spatial index data prior to design for all types of data, which reduces the development process of the workload, but also has good adaptability and scalability.3 Based on the scientific data management method of the discussion and the research, this paper established a general framework for multi-source scientific data system, and design a multi-source scientific data management service framework and data structure, database. Finally this paper based on WebGIS, network technology and database technology designs and develops the multi-source scientific expedition database system of the southwest India ocean exploration area, system has realized the adaptive memory scientific data through metadata custom functions, and through the automatic geographic abstract function realizes automatic Association scientific data and spatial data, and good results are achieved in the practical application.
