Teradata, is one of the data warehouses which has been broadly adopted by the major domestic and international companies. However, at the peak time in daily usage, capacity consumption of the main data warehouse platform always reach a level higher than 90 percent, bringing huge risks to the security of data warehouse. So in this situation, Teradata needs a capacity saving method with clear process and outstanding achievements to reduce the high pressure. The capacity saving method widely used in industry is manual table dropping. This method relies entirely on manual check of analysts and mailing of related engineers. It has three major weekness:high communication cost, unclear checking conditions and decentralized information. The major technology of this paper is table retirement. Table retirement follows a process that firstly pick out tables with high consumption, low and transferable daily usage and simple dependencies from databases. Then inform on call engineers of stopping the table’s batch service to save capacity. With simplified communication process and strict screening conditions, it is a much superior method than the fromer one. This paper is based on capacity saving and information exhibition project that is established in a lightweight Web framework-Play framework, also known as a popular MVC architecture. It is designed to strengthen the centralization of related information and quickly and efficiently build a tool platform with good interactive features, which is able to smoothly execute all the business processes, dynamically display capacity consumption, and show table-related information accurately and centralized.
