Three-dimensional parametric design has the real fact effects, and can control the project, has been widely used in various industries and the existing parametric algorithms have some limitations. Dam earth-rock is the world’s most widely used dam type and with fastest-growing, the design of it is complex and with large works.So it needs to find a much-needed energy-efficient environmentally friendly way to design and builds an earth-rock dam. Use the three-dimensional parametric thoughts dam design, display and estimate is a new way to meet this demand, and will be the future direction of development.In this paper, we based on a case study of earth-rock dam parametric design and the development platform of parametric design software generative component(GC)to study the algorithm for parametric design and complete the development of parametric design system. First introduce three classic parametric design algorithms:constraint-driven algorithm, geometric causal reasoning algorithm and feature modeling algorithm, we according on the work ways, the results and the application scope of these algorithm proposed a new way to improve these algorithms: the conjunction of three algorithms to circumvent the limitations of each method, and extract the design process parameters of whole system. In the design phase, geometric causal reasoning algorithm is used to convert into a two-dimensional sketch of a feature point spanning tree structure and determine the order of the feature points, this feature tree edges represent constraints set elements. Constraint-driven algorithm to exploit this feature tree parent-child node determines the adjustment element in the constraint-driven process. The tree structure determined the input elements and the output elements in the feature modeling algorithm, the root node can used to be the base place point and also the assemble point in the assemble phase. The combination of the three algorithms can solve the drawbacks of the each algorithm, improve the efficiency of parametric design, and realize the parametric design. Then on a case study of earth-rock dam parametric deign, we make a professional analysis of the dam member, using the basic parameters descripts the dam component. Finally, use theparametric design software Generative Component and interface design software Micro Station VBA to achieve three-dimensional parametric design systems development. The system consists of four modules: building blocks of earth-rock dams, operating feature modules, management module and calculation module.
