Hackers Forum Participant Behavior Study

The rapid development of information technology has brought unbelievableconvenience to people’s daily life. As IT has intergrated into the society and people’s life,cyber crimes become rampant and impose great threats to our systems and organizations.With the high spirit of cooperation, the hacker community improve themselves throughcommunity learning. As an important platform where the hackers exchange ideas togetherand learn techniques from each other, hacker forums provide us an opportunity to observehackes’ behavior. For these reasons, this paper focuses on the determinant factors onusers’reponses to forum posts and explores how threads have evolved in hacker forums.In this paper, first, we reviewed the literature related to the studies of informationsecurity and put forward the assumptions and models based on the observation andanalysis on hacker forum. And then we adopted the data from HackerForum as the studysample and used stata11statistical software for regression analysis to research the modeland theory. Finally we came to the following conclusions:(1) significant correlationexists between the topic of a post and users’ response behavior;(2) the forumperformance of the author has a promotion effect on users’response behavior to a post;(3)significant correlation exists between the incentive and motive of a post and users’response behavior to the post. Then we give some suggestions on hacker community andinformation security. In the end, we discussed the limitation and prospect of this research.
