User interface is a medium for transferring and exchanging information between man andmachine. In recent years, with the rapid development of IT and network technique and theconstant improvement of people’s aesthetic standards, UI design and development hasbecome one of the most dynamic researches in the field of computer science and design.Facing the complicated demands for UI functions, design method based on multivariatestatistical analysis can contribute to making plans and assisting designers in finding suchinformation as property and effectiveness, thus carrying out the interface developmentwork in a stratified and systematic way. Multivariate statistical analysis is acomprehensive analytical method, which can analyze the statistical regularity of multipleobjects and indicators when they are linked together, with a focus on the interdependentstatistical regularity among multiple variables of the objective things.In the first part, this text describes the development process and research status of UIdesign, pointing out that traditional design methods have such disadvantages as strongersubjectivity and heavier research work. Inspired by the case in which multivariatestatistical analysis is used in positioning new product market, the author puts forward theidea of using this method in guiding interfacial design.The second part focuses on introducing the basic concepts, classification and application,conjoint analysis approach and SPSS software of the multivariate statistical analysis. Asone of the analytical methods of multivariate statistical analysis, conjoint analysisapproach is widely used in defining product property in order to meet market requirements.The author will combine conjoint analysis approach with SPSS software so as to conductquantitative research of interfacial design. In the third part, the author describes in detail the analytical process of conjoint analysisapproach with corporate web UI design as the leading case, enabling the designing team toposition key web properties with speed and preciseness, which have greatly improved thework efficiency compared with traditional methods.The fourth part describes other applications of multivariate statistical analysis in UI design,which provides guiding methods for work in other design areas with its applicability.Multivariate statistical analysis shows an innovative effect on the study and application ofUI design methods. In the trend of developing the society with cross-boarder cooperation,the application of multivariate statistical analysis method provides an efficient method forrealizing the design of quantitative evaluation and decision making.
