With the development of science and technology and the demand of three-dimensional(3D) visualization technology, a large number of3D visualization systems appeared.Interaction between users and3D virtual environments are needed in many of the systems.Object picking is a significant part of3D interaction technique.3D interaction techniques arewidely used in Virtual Reality system, Computer Aided Design system and3D computergames. The most serious problems of3D object picking are the speed and the accuracy. In this paper,3D object picking technology is studied, and ray-casting based technology, volume cursor based technology, semantic based technology and some other interactiontechnologies are studied. The problems of speed and accuracy are not solved by existingtechnologies. It is benefit to create semantic space on the projection plane of a3D scene and controlthe cursor according Fitts’ Law which can improve the speed and accuracy of an objectpicking task. Therefore, in this paper3D semantic picking is proposed. We first create a3Dsemantic space and then control the movement of cursor by semantic information accordingFitts’ Law and multimodal feedback is used.3D space and3D semantic space have the sameDOF which makes interaction tasks more flexible. Experiment study shows that3D semanticpicking is efficient.
